Race 1
Amateur drivers as usual start the meeting and it's always hard to go past Vince/Wigg in these races. MISTER SLICK was scratched last week at Auckland but finds right race. Doesn't often run in these races and at best would smash them. The Batmobile was massive in defeat 2 weeks ago and is a great show if the front is available. MARIANNA BROMAC was weak last time and should have won but is that type of horse, so placing looks best. Another back row draw for EDAMFAST another running on effort coming up.
Race 2
CEE WHATADELIGHT gets into a maiden against her own sex after putting in a nice debut in a stronger maiden 2 weeks ago. Is top pick. The Hughes stable have 2 first starters GIRLS ARE BEST and THE HONEY QUEEN are both 2yo fillies and I'm loathe to tip recent qualifiers against older horses but this a poor field. SUNSET RED is most experienced and best performed, can be a rogue behind mobile but if on best behaviour should be top 3.
Race 3
HE'S A LADIES MAN probably was slightly disappointing 2 weeks ago but this isn't a flash field, don't think speeding off gate is his go, so a juniors race where they go hard and walk home will suit. RUSSLEY RUSH stuck on nicely 2 weeks ago and from draw shouldn't be parked, is best horse in the field. BETTERBEBETTER led all the way last time and although that won't be happening this time, has enough ability to compete at this level. OLIVIA RACHEL albeit poor on the face of it last time has a better draw to more suit her style and will run top 4.
Race 4
THE GREENKEEPER is a horse way better then maidens but he's not overly worldly yet, as he's still unruly he will have to work the hardest but his workouts and races lately have been a big improvement and can win this easy. J OHNSON STEP wasn't allowed to lead last time but it worked out very well, if eased to follow right horse again will run top 2.HAWTHORNDEN HUNK on face of it had his chance last time but blew hard and has improved with run but draw is typically horrific, funny horse but underrated. TRIPLE FOUR hasn't seemed 100% at workouts this time in and then got checked badly on debut, stables flying and draw says marker pegs all day.
Race 5
SILK certainly didn't live up the hype first up in the north but has the draw this time and is still well graded, should win this time. Biggest danger is JIVE who is the drop back horse of the day, big run last time after doing no work and if favourite is beaten it will be by Jive.
GOLDEN LACE is a bit of a hail mary here , wasn't bad enough last time to discount for a first four spot and EMMI ROSE was too bad to be true 2 weeks ago, but may have been a run short and hasn't had to travel this week, needs to lead but still good enough.
Race 6
BAR ROOM BRAWL would have won if Dickie breathed out last time, but was trotting like a crab, Wins if he can sort his gait out in the closing moments. Looking for a penalty free win so stable junior is on but should cope. XEBEC needed to hang his head in shame after galloping away last time, has since gone back to trials and beat up qualifiers, Don't watch early but if he trots will be in fight. DELSON is an interesting proposition, the 2700 is a bug assist and he got into a tight spot 400 out last time and I don't think Dylan will allow that to happen again. For some reason RECYCLE was favourite last time and blew to bits for no reason at all when trailling. Needs to lead and with no Luk Chin this time, should.
Race 7
Very even contest, MILNER drops back hugely in grade and will start favourite, top pick. MATAI MINKY was sectionally great last time and has a top draw. TEMPO ROSE should've finished closer last time from the pegs, wasn't much stable confidence around her but she's back again so is a runners chance. The world must've ended when BROOKIES JAFFA got a good draw and great trip last time, Sticks hard and if drawn better would've been to pick on honesty alone.
Race 8
In the feature, RED REACTOR is the best horse in field and even though handicap is harsh he can do work in this grade and still win, main danger is the course specialist CALLIES DELIGHT, stand start manners are good and has a decent start on some of the main rivals to her. THE LONE RANGER has a start on them both but standing start manners are iffy to say the least, if he steps he's a trifecta must. PARKER and FLYING STEPS both were weak at Auckland last time and probably can't win from these handicaps but can run in first four.
Race 9
SHEZSOMETHINSPECIAL worked overtime last 1400 2 weeks ago and went a very good race, has the draw this time. IDEAL AGENT hasn't set the world on fire at workouts and was disappointing at times last campaign too but on ability will be short in market. LAGERTHA picked up a penalty free win 2 weeks ago and is never far away in this class. DIAMONDSRBETTER has big gate speed and although stopped quickly last time it was made worse by the flat tyre, won't have to work hard to stay in front this time.
Race 10
The customary lower graded trot ends the night, if only the lotto numbers were as easy to pick. CHASING GREAT should have won last time, not big on ability but too good for these. THE LAST GAMBLE is always a hope in these races, maybe went a little bit too early last time and her fitness is bound to be better this week. STRENGTH OF HEART is most reliable of the maidens and if fit, runs in 3 again. MAJESTIC STRIDE is not best suited to starting off a handicap but how can she not run in first four with good manners. The money on KRISTOFFERSON was absolutely baffling and had zero manners. Probably runs favourite again so if you like it go again.
Best Bet: Race 10 (8) Chasing Great
Each Way Value: Race 9 (2) Shezsomethinspecial
